AMU Murshidabad Center: Foundation stone on Sep. 26

It is a historical occasion that Aligarh Muslim
University is extending its vistas for the first time in its 136 years
history by laying the foundation stone to make the establishment of AMU
Murshidabad Center in West Bengal on September 26, 2010.

The West Bengal Government has facilitated transfer of 288 acres of Farakha
Barage land from Water Resources Ministery to Aligarh Muslim University on
September 3 this year and the Government of West Bengal and Aligarh Muslim
University jointly decided to hold the Foundation Stone Ceremony at Ahiron,
Murshidabad District.

Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will be the Chief Guest of the
function. The AMU dream project aimed at changing educational scenario of
the region could not have seen the light of the day but for the keen
interest and support extended by Mr. Pranab Mukherjee.

The Chief Minister of Bengal, Budhadeb Bhattacharjee will be laying the
foundation stone for the Murshidabad AMU Center. The Chief Minister’s
initiative and personal interventions was instrumental in removal of
numerous roadblocks.

Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis, Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University whose
relentless efforts have ultimately bring into reality the establishment of
the state-of-the-art, educational hubs will preside over the function.

Other dignitaries who will be gracing the occasion including Mr. Pawan Kumar
Bansal, Union Minister for Water Recourse Development, Mrs. D.
Purandeshwari, Union Minister of State for Human Resource development.

There is an all round jubilation as people everywhere see the move as
opening up of opportunity to have access to world class education at the
backward district of Murshidabad which is predominantly inhabitant by
minority and other backward communities.
