Sir Syed Day to be Celebrated at AMU on October 17th

Sir Syed Day will be celebrated with traditional zeal
on October 17, 2010 at the Aligarh Muslim University. It was decided in a
consultative meeting with the Provosts, Deans of faculties, Principals of
the colleges and Member-in-Charges. The meeting was presided over by the
Vice Chancellor, Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis.

Everybody present in the meeting unanimously agreed that Sir Syed Day should
be organized in an appropriate manner. All the provosts reported that the
students are in favour of celebration of Sir Syed Day with traditional
fervor.

The consultative meeting also resolved that Sir Syed Dinner will be arranged
in every Hall of residence in a traditional style and the food will be
served in the Dining Halls. Only bonafide students will be allowed to join
the dinner and the public meeting, proposed to be organized by various halls
of residence.

It was decided that senior teachers of the University, eminent former
teachers and literary and cultural figures be invited as the chief guest
depending on their availability. The meeting urged the provosts to take
extreme care so that uninvited people do not enter the gate during S. S. Day
celebrations.

The meeting viewed with concern that some students involved in dharna have
threatened that they would not allow Sir Syed Day on the campus. The meeting
appealed to the students to refrain from such stand and enable the Sir Syed
Day, a unique occasion to pay homage to the founder.

The Sir Syed Day commemoration meeting will be held at Kennedy Hall
Auditorium in a befitting manner.

Sine the meeting of the Jury could not be conducted, the Sir Syed Ahmad Khan
International Award-2010 would be declared later and the award will be given
to the recipient in an appropriate function.
